The city of Bothell has ordered four 2013 Police Interceptors, Ford Motor Company’s lineup of high-performance, fuel-efficient vehicles designed specifically for the unique conditions of law-enforcement work.

The addition to the city’s fleet includes two Police Interceptor sedans and two Police Interceptor utility vehicles.

The 2013 Police Interceptor sedans on order boast a 3.5L EcoBoost engine that offers 365 horsepower and all-wheel drive. Its interior includes unique police seats with cutouts to accommodate police officers’ utility belts. Among its safety features: It has passed a rear crash-test at 75 mph and features anti-stab plates in the seat backs.

The 2013 Police Interceptor utility vehicles on order boast a 3.7-liter V6 EcoBoost engine that offers 304 horsepower and all-wheel drive. Its interior includes unique police seats with cutouts to accommodate police officers’ utility belts.  Among its safety features: It has passed a rear crash-test at 75 mph and features anti-stab plates in the seat backs.

The standard V6 engine in the Police Interceptors is projected to get at least 20 percent better fuel efficiency than the 2011 Crown Victoria model (rated at 17 mpg city), which Ford no longer offers.

“Ford created the Police Interceptors to meet the unique requirements of police work,” said Steve Hoe, Ford Western States Manager for Government Sales.  “Our engineers worked hand-in-hand with Ford’s Police Advisory Board of law enforcement professionals, who provided input on key vehicle attributes such as safety, performance, durability, driver comfort and functionality.”

The Michigan State Police recently tested the Ford Police Interceptors against other competitors at Grattan Raceway and observed the following:

· The Police Interceptor sedan equipped with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost^® V6 engine topped the competition in 0-60 mph, 0-80 mph and 0-100 mph acceleration. These fast closing-in speeds are critical for first responders and law enforcement professionals.  It also posted the fastest single lap and best average lap times.

· The Police Interceptor all-wheel-drive utility vehicle posted top 0-60 mph and 0-80 mph times in the acceleration tests and also achieved the quickest lap times versus competing police utility vehicles.
