Four U.S. Army Soldiers residing in the Seattle area will be taking on another field assignment for the U.S. Army in January – but this time, it’s on the football field. Included is Sgt. 1st Class Sara Schultz of Bothell. She will travel to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas, on Dec. 29 to serve as a Soldier Mentors for the nation’s top high school football players and marching band members leading up to the annual East vs. West match-up on Jan. 3.

These Soldiers were selected by Army leadership as four of this year’s 24 Soldier Mentors. They will directly engage with America’s youth while participating in scrimmages and competitions, taking part in community service engagements, and attending a Spurs basketball game with the athletes and musicians – among other activities throughout the week. The Soldiers will have the opportunity to inspire these students with their Army stories while demonstrating many of the same mental, emotional and physical strengths the students share with U.S. Army Soldiers.

Schultz joined the Army Reserve in 2001. Since then she has served in multiple roles across the country including TPU Army Reserve Career Counselor and a Petroleum Supply Specialist. In addition to military education, she holds a master’s in business administration and a bachelor’s in economics. She holds a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor certification from the Institute of Certified Bankers. Her awards and decorations include the Army Commendation, the Army Achievement Medal and the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal. She was also selected as the FY14 Secretary of the Army and Army Reserve Career Counselor of the Year.
