From the latest Bothell Bridge: “Voters might see several future ballot measures to fund City needs.” Please don’t.

Mr. Mayor, you and your colleagues were recently elected to roll out your agenda: raise taxes, buy open space and… restore integrity or some such righteous endeavor. I don’t support referendums to raise taxes.

“And to the Republic, for which it stands …” is part of the pledge that you lead before every City Council meeting. Our Republic was designed so that citizens do not govern themselves, our elected representatives do. Please honor that pledge by doing your job – representing the majority of Bothell. There’s a cost associated with extra ballot measures. Everyone who voted for you was aware of your intentions and previous record of raising taxes. Regarding a fireworks advisory vote, I’m sure you were asked several times about your position. Why waste the money to have us vote again? Only a coward gets elected and hides behind referendums about contentious issues. You already won. Represent. If the voters don’t like it, the majority will vote you out in the next round. That’s how our system works. Have the integrity to step up and do the job you pledge to do.
