Army Staff Sgt. Kasumi K. Leonard has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal. Leonard is the granddaughter of Bothell resident Robert Leonard.

The medal is awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces, who while serving in any capacity with the Army have distinguished themselves by meritorious service or achievement while serving in a combat or non-combat area.

Leonard is a flutist assigned to the United States Army Field Band at Fort George G. Meade, Md. She has served in the military for three years.

Leonard graduated in 2005 from Roosevelt High School, Seattle, Wash., and received a bachelor’s degree in music in 2009 from Eastman School of Music, Rochester, N.Y.
