Northshore School District’s 16th annual Backpacks for Kids campaign begins July 9.
The multi-week campaign benefits local families who are unable to send their children to school with necessary school supplies. To meet this growing need, the Northshore School District and the Northshore Schools Foundation are coordinating a community-wide drive to collect back-to-school supplies and backpacks.
This year’s campaign runs July 9-30. During these dates local businesses and churches are volunteering to be collection sites. Civic and youth groups are volunteering to help assemble backpacks on Aug. 6.
At the end of this annual campaign, with the help of every school nurse, the district will distribute more than 1,150 filled backpacks to preschool through grade 12 students. Families in need of this resource should contact their Northshore school nurse or office manager.
Backpacks for Kids is one more way Northshore is working to strengthen the community through excellence in education by providing students the opportunity to start the school year prepared to learn.
Here is the list of supplies needed: new, sturdy backpack; color pencils; No. 2 lead pencils; markers (wide tip); 2 inch three-ring binder; highlighter; eraser/eraser tops; 12-inch ruler; scissors (blunt and pointed tip); pencil pouch; glue sticks; pocket folder/Pee Chee (no metal clasps please); blue/black pens; notebook paper (college and wide rule); red ink pen; color crayons (24 count); composition notebook (college and wide rule); and spiral notebook (college and wide rule).
