City of Kenmore to host public workshop on development code amendments July 13

The city of Kenmore is proposing amendments to the Kenmore Municipal Code land development sections (Title 17 – “Land Division,” Title 18 – “Zoning,” and Title 19 – “Planning Policies and Procedures”) to eliminate inconsistencies, resolve existing conflicts, and reorganize the codes for ease of use by the city administration, project applicants and the general public.

This project supports the second of the council’s top five goals —to implement the economic development plan through a comprehensive audit of regulations and review of processes, along with identification of future, more substantive, code amendments (including a zoning review).  This effort is a continuation of several measures taken to improve the city’s land development process, including creation of the Department of Land Development and Permitting and its “Development Review Team.”

The proposed amendments are detailed, administrative in nature, but still consistent with the Comprehensive Plan.  The City Council heard an introductory presentation on these amendments on June 13 and conducted a workshop to discuss them on June 28.  Council will be holding a public hearing on July 18 to encourage public comment to the proposed changes.

Prior to the public hearing, a public workshop will be conducted to present an overview of the project and answer questions about the proposed amendments.  The public workshop is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. July 13 at City Hall.  A brief presentation describing the process and some of the most significant amendments will be made at 6 p.m.  Questions will be addressed until 8 p.m.

The materials presented to the City Council at the June 13 meeting and at the workshop on June 28 can be accessed from the city’s Web site.
