Bothell needs a moratorium on all property rezoning for Waynita Way | Letter

The Seattle Times article that ran in Sunday’s paper clearly shows the massive amount of dissatisfaction and frustration with the mayor [of Bothell] from the homeowners of the Bentley neighborhood properties. I quote from the article “many residents of Bentley, his first Bothell subdivision, are fuming over what they say is poor construction quality and an unresponsive builder who also happens to be their mayor.”

Plus we have the issue of homes and historical landmarks being unlawfully removed and destroyed.

The Verde development is nearing completion, and when combined with the completion of Pipers Glen, we will have a parking lot five hours a day on Waynita Way and on up 100th, a two-lane road with no room for expansion. We’re also seeing more and more users avoiding 520 tolls and using this road as a way into and out of Kirkland and Seattle.

Developers hold too much sway in the city and have a firm grip within the City Council and the Planning Commission, the effects of this grip are going to be felt for generations to come in the form of traffic gridlock.

I request the City Council immediately place a moratorium on all property rezoning and building permits on Waynita Way and on up 100th until an in-depth comprehensive traffic study on the area is completed.

In these turbulent times for our city, with the media spotlighting Bothell weekly for unscrupulous land deals, let’s do something positive for the citizens of Bothell.
