There’s a lot at stake for the Bothell City Council election this year, and the race that matters most is Pos. 2 that’s being vacated by Mayor Andy Rheaume. This is the only position that that doesn’t have an incumbent running. Incumbents win an overwhelming percentage of the time in most elections, which is why Pos. 2 is so important.

Anyone who pays the slightest attention to the council will recognize that the majority are in lock step. Mason Thompson is endorsed by six of the seven council members. Some may think this is a good thing, but I beg to differ. A healthy government does not have an 85 percent majority. Include the city manager and that’s seven out of eight in total agreement. What’s worth discussing if they are just going to rubber stamp the city manager and each other? Is anyone asking the hard questions?

Who would you rather your council members be endorsed by — other council members hoping to quash any voices of dissent, or our first responders — the men and women who put their lives in harm’s way to protect us? Please don’t elect another clone of the council. I’m voting for Leigh Henderson, who reflects the heart of soul of Main Street for nearly 30 years, building community and thinking of a strong future.
