Students at Evergreen Academy Elementary and Preschool in Bothell have collected more than 1,000 pounds of food during the past two months for local food banks.
The preschool collected 542 pounds of non-perishable food items to benefit nonprofit organization Hopelink. Students and their families collected the donations throughout the month of November. Following the drive, students helped fill the Hopelink van with donations.
Hopelink serves homeless and low-income families, children, seniors and people with disabilities in north and east King county, providing stability and helping people gain the skills and knowledge they need to exit poverty for good.
Students at the elementary school collected 504 pounds of non-perishable food items to donate to the Maltby Food Bank, as part of the school’s annual Apple Cup food drive. The food drive competition celebrates the rivalry between the Washington Huskies and the Washington State Cougars, where students and parents show their support for their favorite team by donating goods to the box labeled with their team’s name. At the close of the friendly competition, the Huskies won over the Cougars in a close race. The food contributions will help provide meals and groceries to members of the community in need.
The Maltby Food Bank is an independent, nonprofit organization that reaches out to people in need through advocacy and actions.
