Intense images of protests in Egypt. Provocative spoken word poetry. Lively discussions on topics including Ferguson, immigration, and refugees. These are a few of the offerings scheduled for Cascadia College’s Human Rights Awareness Week that runs Jan. 12-15. Community members are encouraged to attend.

“The goal of this program is to foster critical thinking about human rights in the context of conflict. It encourages students to think about connections between human rights issues locally, nationally, and on a global level,” said Cascadia instructor Nader Nazemi, Ph.D., who is leading this event in his role as chair of the college’s Global Education Committee. “This week brings together scholars, activists, and students, and provides a common theme around which we can all engage in active learning.”

Human Rights Awareness Week has been a tradition at Cascadia College. Instructors across a variety of disciplines use the events to support and stretch their course curricula. Featured artists, speakers, and facilitators have been selected to represent a wide range of professional backgrounds and issues.

The events are open to the public and free of charge. Parking is $3 for a half day and $6 for a full day at any of the campus parking facilities. Click for detailed schedule and a campus map. All events are being held in Cascadia’s Mobius Hall.
