The fourth annual Youth Art Exhibit, a juried exhibit from Pacific Northwest artists, will open Nov. 13 at the Arts of Kenmore (AOK) Gallery in Kenmore City Hall.
Twenty-nine young artists were juried into the show following an overwhelming competition of 82 entries. The featured artists include: Jewel Baek, Jamie Campbell, Candace Chang, Jessica Forcucci, Iris Han, Haemin Hong, Jin Yong Jeong, Alexandra Kim, Bansuk Kim, Jessica Kim, Joice Jeewoo Kim, Cindy Kuang, Cara Kwon, Aaron Lee, Soolung Lee, Joy Li, David Lindstrom, Sarah Miller, Ji Young Moon, Asaki Nelson, Maizie Patterson, Isabella Prasatik, Grace Mary Richardson, Charlotte Weber, Leah Wohlfert, Rachel Yi, Alishia Yoon, Sharon Yoon and Sue Ellen Zhang.
The exhibit was juried in three age categories: 5-8 years old, 9-12, and 13-18. The public is invited to an opening reception from 6:30-8 p.m. on Nov. 13, featuring a presentation of awards for each age group and recognition certificates for all artists.
The theme of this exhibit could be called “Young Masters of Old World Arts,” according to gallery curator Sara Solum Hayashi. From a 6 year old’s ethereal hummingbird in pastel to the expressive brush strokes of an 18 year old’s black and white portrait, the dexterity of skill and emotional prowess in this exhibit defies their young ages.
“There is a vulnerability, passion and spirit of the youth,” Hayashi said. “This exhibit displays their talent beyond mastery of line, color, shape and texture into storytelling. Their poetic reach into personal social issues and a generation’s culture is explosively magical. Their paint and mixed media explodes across paper and canvas as if looking for a place to fit in this world. If you visit no other Arts exhibit this year, this is the one to see up close and personal.”
“Youth Art” is the latest in a series of five exhibitions mounted throughout the year by Arts of Kenmore, a nonprofit organization that also produces the annual Kenmore Art Show at Bastyr University in June. AOK Gallery exhibits are made possible by sustaining support from the city of Kenmore and 4Culture.
The mission of the Arts of Kenmore, a non-profit, all-volunteer organization, is to promote the Arts in the Kenmore community through the annual art show and other programs, including arts grants to six public schools and regular exhibits at the AOK Gallery at Kenmore City Hall.
