Let’s use technology to help citizens that need it the most

Compass Housing serves many people who do not have a reliable place to call home.

Helping families and people get what they need to feel safe, get back on their feet and be successful in life, we work with local organizations that share this mission and passion.

Compass Broadview: A Tech-Centered Housing Community

This year Compass Housing opened the Compass Broadview Community in North Seattle. The building was developed on land purchased from Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, and has 59 apartments for adults and families who were previously homeless.

It’s also one of the first we’ve opened with a new “internet for all” design, thanks to Comcast.

A Seattle study shows 95 percent of homes have some form of internet access. It also shows that those without internet are often low-income. Internet can make a difference for people living in difficult situations and Compass Housing feels lucky to have great partners that can help give people hope.

Comcast created two rooms for new residents with internet and technology resources. The rooms are The Comcast Community Room and Comcast Media Room. These are places where people can use internet for important things like taking classes, finding a job and much more.

Residents also can use Comcast’s Internet Essentials – an internet service for low-income households. The program has helped more than 6 million Americans connect to the internet since 2011, including 260,000 in Washington state. With the program, people can buy a discounted computer and receive technology training, as well.

Local Internet & Technology Partners Needed

In Seattle, tech companies have a large presence. They also have an opportunity to do a lot of good for those in need.

The more we can offer access to internet and technology to all, the better our city will be. While we are making great progress, there is more work to be done for the five percent of the population that needs it most.
