Technology puts healthcare at your fingertips

Accessibility, integration and convenience transform care

Technology has transformed medicine in ways unimaginable in decades past. From ground-breaking research and treatment to innovative surgical techniques, patients and their medical teams have access to more information and care options than ever before.

Today, technology is transforming how patients access care too.

“So many of us are so busy, and we’re so much more likely to seek the care we need when it’s convenient and accessible,” explains Dr. Christopher Thayer, Chief Medical Informatics Officer with Kaiser Permanente, recognized as one of America’s leading healthcare providers and not-for-profit health plans.

Online tools and tech-driven solutions also open healthcare to those who may not otherwise access it, such as younger males – among the least likely demographic to seek medical care.

“Putting these tech options at their fingertips will help ensure they get the help they need,” Dr. Thayer says.

Access & Integration

The combined health care delivery model provides access to health clinics, specialized treatment, pharmacies and more. Within a variety of care plan options, including individual and family plans, business and corporate plans, and Medicare Advantage plans, co-ordinated care teams work with you – and each other – to help keep you healthy.

Here’s where the technology comes in.

From your computer, tablet or smartphone, you can easily access all your own records through Kaiser Permanente’s secure online portal, and so can your healthcare providers, allowing for greater communication – and more efficient, integrated care.

Calling the nurse consulting line about a possible allergic reaction? The registered nurse on the other end of the line can immediately see any history or medications that might be contributing to the condition or symptoms, Dr. Thayer explains.

The unique care and coverage model also offers a variety of tech-driven and online care options:

  • Interactive online visits allow you to speak with care providers, including doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners and others, receive a treatment plan and, if needed, a prescription, without a trip to your doctor’s office.
  • A nurse consulting line is available 24/7, a chance to access tips, connect with medical service providers and more.
  • The Care clinic at Bartell Drugs highlights another community connection, allowing patients to speak with a nurse, get more minor conditions assessed and treated, receive prescriptions and more.
  • Care Chat windows allow for quick and easy communication and preliminary assessment when clients are unsure whether their symptoms require more urgent care, or can wait until the next day or their next appointment. Chat from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, at no cost for members.

Regardless of the care option you choose, you can feel confident you can ask your questions and get them answered quickly, correctly and with your unique health history in mind.

“Not only are you receiving a knowledgeable response but it’s coming from a skilled professional with access to your case history. It’s that kind of integration that really makes a difference,” Dr. Thayer says.
