The city of Kenmore is considering implementing timed parking on some downtown streets through a draft ordinance to be presented to the City Council later this month.

As commercial development increases and the city finishes the City Hall Park and the Town Green projects parking demand is projected to increase, city spokesperson Leslie Harris said in an email.

By establishing two-hour timed parking along sections of 68th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 181st Street near City Hall, Harris said the city hopes to increase space turnover by reducing full day use parking by commuters.

Projected hours for timed parking zones would be between 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Staying parked over the time limit could result in a fine of up to $50, though the exact dollar amount has not been determined.

At a March 28 council meeting, Harris said police officers would be assigned on overtime to police the parking zones with revenue from tickets used to offset payroll costs. But she said revenue would likely break even after footing the bill for additional ticket court costs.

The proposal is projected to go before the council for a vote later this month.
