American Cancer Society is ready for Relay For Life of Northshore

The American Cancer Society (ACS) will kick off the Relay For Life of Burien celebration from 7-8 p.m. Jan. 6 at Skyview Junior High, located at 21404 35th Ave. S.E., Bothell. The event will provide information about Relay For Life and how volunteers can get involved in the fight against cancer.

Founded 25 years ago by Tacoma physician Dr. Gordy Klatt, Relay For Life has grown to be the most recognized fund-raising event for cancer nationwide, held in more than 5,000 communities and raising more than $3 billion toward cancer research, advocacy, education and patient services. In 2010, the Relay For Life of Northshore saw more than 800 people from the cities of Bothell and Woodinville participating on 79 teams and raising more than $100,000.

Relay For Life is a family-oriented event in which teams will walk or run in shifts around the track for 12 to 24 hours. Participants traditionally camp out on the field, and, when they are not taking their turn walking, enjoy a variety of entertainment and activities.

The Relay For Life of Northshore will be held May 21-22 at Skyview Junior High. For more information, call Kelly Cochran at (206) 674-4103 or visit Relay for Life’s Web site.
