The city of Kenmore advises residents they will close access to the pond and along the maintenance road of Wallace Swamp Creek Park for dredging on July 21.

Each summer, the city must dredge sediment and debris out of swamp creek from the pond. The creek is routed through a bypass channel, which allows workers to drain the pond and remove sediment and debris. On average, about 3,000 cubic yards of material is removed from the pond each year, according to a city spokesperson.

As the pond is drained, fish and other aquatic animals are captured and transported back into the creek just downstream of the pond. Some

of the inhabitants that we often find include Cutthroat Trout, Coho and Chinook Salmon, Sculpin, Lamprey, Crayfish and Common Carp.

The closure will begin on July 21st and can last for up to 10 days. For your safety, please do not enter the work area.
