Molina Healthcare reported a bomb threat to Bothell Police Department on May 12.

The incident started at 8:16 a.m., when a frustrated mother called in about a medication for her child being denied payment through medicaid. According to police reports, an officer arrived while the suspect was still on the phone speaking to a customer service representative from Molina.

The Molina representative who handled the call, Sarah Roberts, said that when the call started the suspect was already “very upset.” When the suspect requested the reason the prescription hadn’t been filled and hadn’t gotten the answer from Roberts that the mother had been expecting she then threatened to attack Molina.

“Well, maybe I should drive up there and blow the place up,” said the suspect, according to Roberts’ statement.

When Roberts further tried to calm the situation by asking for a moment to contact her supervisor about the prescription issue, the suspect also stated, “Well, maybe I’ll just kill myself while I’m waiting.”

The mother had filed an appeal with Medicaid concerning the ability to have the service cover non-FDA approved medications for her special needs child, however the appeal had not yet been resolved by the time the threats were made.

According to the police reports, by the end of the conversation the mother had calmed down considerably and that Roberts believed the threats were made out of frustration. Before hanging up the mother thanked Roberts for listening to her and assisting her with the problem prescription.

When asked by Bothell Police Department if they wished to file charges, Molina was not interested in pursuing criminal charges in this case, but wanted to have the incident on record in case it happened again.

The caller has two domestic violence protection orders through Kent police department, however neither they nor the Department of Licensing had an address on file and, when officers attempted to make contact, there was no answer at the address Molina provided.

The case is closed and no further action is being taken.

Molina Healthcare is located at 21540 30th Drive SE in Bothell.
