Bothell American Legion honors firefighter, detective

During the Bothell American Legion Post No. 127 February meeting the Post honored firefighter Kelly Melton and Bothell Police Detective Mike Stone, both were honored for their service above and beyond what is expected of a first responder.

During the Bothell American Legion Post No. 127 February meeting the Post honored firefighter Kelly Melton and Bothell Police Detective Mike Stone, both were honored for their service above and beyond what is expected of a first responder. Melton and Stone were given plaques and will be submitted for the Washington State Legion Harry Easley public service award.

Stone was the lead detective on the 2013 homicide case in Bothell. His hard work and extra time and effort lead to an arrest and now a conviction of the suspect.

Melton is a Bothell firefighter who traveled to Sierra Leone and helped fight the spreading of Ebola. She is a manager for the Sierra Leone Program. On her last trip to Sierra Leone, she spent four weeks there and helped set up a program for screening and treating pregnant women. She has traveled the world to help people in crisis, Japan (Tsunami), Haiti (earthquake), eight trips to Sierra Leone and here locally.

Bothell City Manager Bob Stowe was present along with Dave Hodgeboom, Commander of the American Legion for the State of Washington. A number of Police and Fire Supervisors were also present.
