Bothell-based Philips Healthcare was recognized by United Way of Snohomish County with its Community Partner Award for 2013. The award was presented at the annual Spirit of Snohomish County Breakfast on Sept. 25, attended by more than 600 people.

“Philips does amazing work in the community,” said Dr. Dennis G. Smith, president and CEO of United Way of Snohomish County. “One of the reasons they won their award is their year-long commitment to volunteerism.”

The Community Partner Award recognizes an organization or corporation that exemplifies the most comprehensive, measurable commitment to building strong and caring communities.

Philips Healthcare has been a strong partner of nonprofits in Snohomish County for many years, and consistently runs one of the largest United Way campaigns in the county. In addition to giving strong financial support to United Way, Philips employees are committed to community service, participating in September’s Days of Caring and other volunteer events throughout the year.

In fact, in the last year, Philips employees mobilized 171 staff to volunteer 1,144 hours at 5 nonprofits throughout the county.

Philips’ commitment to service extends nationwide. In 2013, Philips Healthcare is planning to increase their total employee volunteer hours by 20 percent.

Nominations are submitted in June and reviewed by teams of volunteers. The only award determined by United Way staff is the Reeves/Sievers’ Founders Award, which is similar to a Lifetime Achievement Award. This year, the Reeves/Sievers’ Award was given to Ed Petersen, founder of Housing Hope and member of the Everett School Board.
