Bothell City Council seeks committee members for fireworks advisory ballot measure

The Bothell City Council will place an Advisory Ballot Proposition regarding the sale, possession and discharge of fireworks on the November 2016 ballot. The Council seeks committee members to advocate approval of or rejection of the measure.

The Bothell City Council will place an Advisory Ballot Proposition regarding the sale, possession and discharge of fireworks on the November 2016 ballot. The Council seeks committee members to advocate approval of or rejection of the measure.

The Bothell City Council is calling for an advisory election to determine whether the sale, possession, and discharge of consumer fireworks should be prohibited within the City of Bothell. The prohibition of the sale, possession or discharge of consumer fireworks would not affect properly licensed and permitted public displays of fireworks.

Interested individuals should submit a letter of interest no later than 5 p.m. on July 11. The letter should include their name, street address, telephone number, and email address, to:

Individuals must also indicate their support or opposition to the ballot measure and explain why they are interested in serving as a committee member.

No more than three people may be appointed to each committee by the Bothell City Council. Each committee will be responsible for writing statements that will appear in the local voters’ pamphlet (maximum of 250 words) related to the Advisory Fireworks Measure. The City

Council anticipates appointing members during the July 19 Council meeting. Pro and con statements for the voters’ pamphlet are due to the King County Auditor by Aug. 11 and to the Snohomish County Auditor by Aug. 16.

The ballot measure is an advisory measure. If the measure passes, the City Council will consider results of the election in making a determination about whether the sale, possession, and discharge of consumer fireworks should be prohibited within the City of Bothell.
