On Aug. 26, Bothell Daycare and Preschool had a special visit from the Seattle Police Deptartment.

The children from Bothell Daycare had heard about the Beds for Kids project, started by officers Wade and Gallagher in conjunction with the Seattle Police Foundation. They wanted to donate money to buy a bed and bedding for a child that does not have a bed of their own.

Children brought in change, dollar bills and piggy banks to add to the big jar daily. We talked about how nice it was to wake up in their own bed this morning and children shared about the kinds of sheets they had, which included Spiderman and Hello Kitty. They wanted to be sure a child without a bed would get the full set, including bed frame, mattress, pillow, sheets and blanket. That full set is $300 and the beds come from IKEA. IKEA has generously donated $5000 for the project.

It took only three weeks for the jar of money to reach the full $300.

“Granted, there were some generous parents and staff members that also helped, but the piggy banks that came in would melt your heart,” said Diane Brigs. “The children were so excited to have the officers come in person, in full uniform, to receive the money.”

Beds purchased for the project will be assembled on Sept. 6.
