Bothell police sergeant suffers minor injuries in motorcycle crash

A driver attempting to make a U-turn near downtown Bothell this morning collided with a Bothell Police Department sergeant on his motorcycle, according to Bothell Detective Sergeant Elmer Brown.

At 8:49 a.m., the 30-year Bothell department male veteran, age 52, was traveling eastbound at the 18500 block of Beardslee Boulevard. It was at that point that a 22-year-old Woodinville woman facing east pulled her car out from the park position and tried to make a U-turn in front of the sergeant. The bike collided into the left rear quarter panel of the vehicle.

The sergeant suffered minor injuries.

A witness said the sergeant was traveling at the speed limit or under, Brown said. Investigators concluded that the driver was at fault and was issued an infraction for failing to yield the right of way. She was unhurt in the accident.

The sergeant was taken by ambulance to Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland for treatment. Brown said he was released at about noon and was sent home with his arm in a sling.

“Take a minute to slow down,” Brown advises drivers. “Check thoroughly before you pull out because motorcycles are often difficult to see as they’re concealed in a blind spot.”
