Gov. Jay Inslee pinned Fernwood fourth-grader and Bothell resident Cora Long Washington State Student of the Day for answering one of his questions correctly during a recent class field trip to the state capitol. Fernwood fourth-grade classes went on a civic tour of the capitol building and grounds to culminate a social studies unit about Washington state government.

The students were presented to the Senate during a break in the third reading of several education bills and their tour of the governor’s office coincided with a surprise appearance by the governor. Fernwood Principal Gabe DeMiero received a phone call from Olympia praising all Fernwood students for their respectful behavior and their interest and knowledge of state government.
