Bothell Teacher Named VFW Redmond Post Citizenship Education Teacher

Bothell HS teacher awarded by VFW for Citizenship Education Teacher Award.

The following is a press release from the Northshore School District.

The VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Redmond Post recognized Bothell High School social studies teacher John Messner with the district level, grades 9 through 12, Citizenship Education Teacher Award.

He was nominated by WWII veteran John Kenny for including guest speakers in his social studies curriculum and his organizing high school students to help pack boxes for the troops at the VFW Redmond Post.

Messner’s name will be forwarded to the state level for consideration for the state level award. State winners will be forwarded to VFW National Headquarters for the national award contest.

The VFW annually recognizes elementary, junior high and high school teachers who stimulate student interest in America’s history, traditions, institutions, civic responsibility, flag etiquette and patriotism.
