Sheryn Hara’s Book Publishers Network has remained a well-kept secret in our Northshore area ... a treasure hidden among the antique shops, peacocks, roosters and restaurants in Bothell’s quaint Country village.

What I always swore I’d never do … that’s Never! … is write a book. But, the day I stepped into Sheryn’s office, curious to hear about her publishing business, I also heard her encouraging me to create a legacy in the form of a book. Sheryn held my hand, leading me into an unfamiliar world of editors, cover designers and layout specialists … a massive coordination effort she successfully manages. Come to find out, Sheryn’s coordinating expertise hasn’t gone unnoticed in Seattle, either. In addition to her thriving publishing business, it now appears Sheryn will don yet another professional hat.

Paul Doyle, executive Director of Seattle BookFest, named Sheryn as coordinator of Seattle BookFest 2010. The old Northwest book festival was once held on Seattle’s waterfront, moved its location to the Seattle Convention Center, and then disappeared. The good news is that the fest has been resurrected, sponsored by Columbia City Cinema, Columbia City Business Association and the Rainier Chamber of Commerce, and placed in the enthusiastic hands of Sheryn, our neighborhood book publisher.

Are you an author? Or do you like to read for pleasure? Maybe you enjoy browsing through stacks of books, looking for that perfect gift. You’ll definitely want to participate in the Seattle BookFest.

This year’s festival will feature publishers, booksellers and dozens of authors promoting their latest offerings. In addition, there will be poetry readings, an exhibition of graphic artists and a children’s area set up for arts and craft projects and, of course, book reading.

“We plan to have more authors participating than ever before,” says Sheryn.

“They will do readings and have book signings throughout both days and as in years past, there will be informative panel discussions, as well,” she adds.

The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 23-24 at Seattle’s Columbia City Event Center.

Tap into your inner bookworm and become involved. Volunteer jobs are available: help set up, become a greeter, or monitor the various signing and panel discussion events. Call Sheryn at (425) 483-3040 or e-mail her at Sherynhara@earthlink.net if you’d like to reserve booth space at the event.

For me, I’ll see you there with my book in hand, a writing task I said I’d never tackle … that’s Never?
