School district goes paperless with newsletter

The Northshore School District will be using a new electronic newsletter called Northshore Connections to provide information about what’s happening in the school system. Anyone can subscribe by clicking on the link at www.nsd.org

Northshore Connections also provides a link to the community fliers of interest.

Last year, Northshore schools distributed nearly 1.5 million pieces of paper through the community flier distribution system — often referred to as kidmail.

Instead of sending paper fliers home with elementary students this year, electronic fliers are posted on the district Web site.

The district expects to save about 158 tons of paper, or about 2,700 trees, each year with this new plan.

Public to discuss

transfer of local wetlands, park

The Metropolitan King County Council will hold a public hearing Oct. 13 to take testimony on a proposed ordinance regarding the transfer of Swamp Creek Park and the Inglewood Wetlands parcels from King County to the city of Kenmore. The meeting will take place at 1:30 p.m. in room 1001 of the King County Courthouse, which is located at 516 Third Ave. in Seattle.

Swamp Creek is located along the Sammamish River at the intersection of Northeast 175th Street and approximately 80th Avenue Northeast.

The Inglewood Wetlands is comprised of several parcels of land along the Sammamish River shoreline and Inglewood Road within the Inglewood community.

The transfer agreement provides for King County to transfer ownership of the property within 30 days after the effective date of the agreement.
