City of Bothell urges residents to prepare for disasters

The city of Bothell is calling on residents to prepare for emergencies with disaster supply kits for their families. The city has recommended starting with a container and one gallon of water per day per person. Containers should be easy to carry, and all members of the family should know where it is located. Bothell to honor Doug Allen

with ceremony renaming park

A renaming and dedication ceremony will take place to change Westhill Sportsfields to Doug Allen Sportsfields at 19417 88th Ave. N.E., Bothell at 4 p.m. Sept. 26.

Former city of Bothell parks-maintenance worker Doug Allen passed away after suffering fatal injuries in a September 2007 auto accident.

Members of King County and Bothell City Councils, Parks and Recreation Board members, city staff members and family members will be on-hand during the renaming event for a brief program.

The Allen family worked together with the city of Bothell in January to identify ways of honoring their son.

”Doug was the consummate public servant who always went the extra mile in everything he did,” said city of Bothell Public Works Director

Doug Jacobson. “Doug loved his job as the city’s sportsfield specialist, and renaming these fields will serve to honor him at a facility he had much pride in.”

The Westhill Sportsfields were Allen’s main responsibility.

City staff members presented the renaming idea to the Parks and Recreation Board for its consideration.

The board verified that the plan was in line with current policy governing the naming of parks, and recommended the action to the Bothell City Council, which passed a resolution concerning the matter in April.

The 7.6-acre Westhhill sportsfields are adjacent to Westhill Elementary, and consist of three grass soccer fields and one grass multi-purpose field.
