The official filing period for Washington state political candidates was held May 12-16 and while both of Bothell’s incumbents from the 1st District up for re-election have challengers, only the senatorial candidate from Kenmore’s 46th District will be challenged for his seat.

In Bothell, Rep. Luis Moscoso from the 1st District is being challenged by Edward J Barton of Bothell. Moscoso has raised $29,205 and spent $17,498 as of May 19, while Barton has raised no funds, according to the Washington State Public Disclosure Commission website.

The other 1st District seat is held by Bothell resident Derek Stanford. He is being challenged by Brian Travis. Sanford has raised $20,839 and spent $1,485, while Travis has raised no funds, as of May 19, according to the website.

In Kenmore, Sen. David Frockt of the 46th District is being challenged by Van Sperry of Kenmore. Frockt has raised $29,210 so far and spent $11,573, as of May 19, according to the website.

Representatives Jessyn Farrell and Gerald Pollet did not drawn challengers according to the website and will run unopposed. Despite no challenger, Farrell has raised $10,285 and spent $2,455, while Pollet has raised $6,146 and spent $786, as of May 19.

Candidates filed at the Secretary of State’s Office in Olympia or at county auditor offices. Filing fees are 1 percent of a year’s salary for the position sought. Congressional filings are $1,740, Supreme Court $1,675, Court of Appeals $1,595, Superior Court $1,518 and Legislature $421.

The primary will be Aug. 5 and the general election Nov. 4.
