This week is the official filing period for the 2013 election. The races for the respective Bothell and Kenmore City Councils are taking shape.

All perspective candidates have until tomorrow at 5 p.m. to file and choose a position for which to run. All those who have already filed still have until tomorrow’s deadline to switch their position.

Kenmore

In Kenmore, Position 2 incumbent Laurie Sperry, who has served since 2006, is currently slated to run against challenger Dennis Mendrey, according to King County Elections.

Position 4 incumbent and Deputy Mayor Bob Hensel will retire from the council after this term. The deputy mayor was first elected to council in 2003.

Residents Nigel Herbig and Charles Crouch are listed as running for his position.

Herbig said in a release earlier this week that Hensel has endorsed him.

Incumbent Allan Van Ness, who has held Position 6 since 2005, is currently slated to run against Kenmore resident Ken Smith.

Only Sperry and Van Ness have thus far filed appropriate paperwork with the Washington State Public Disclosure Commission (PDC), according to its website. Sperry filed with the PDC on May 10, while Van Ness filed on May 9.

Bothell

Position 1 incumbent Joshua Freed, Position 3 incumbent Del Spivey and Position 7 incumbent Thomas E. Agnew are all listed as running in 2013 by King County Elections.

Only Freed and Spivey have filed paperwork with the PDC and both have served on the council since 2006. Freed filed his paperwork with the PDC on April 22, while Spivey filed on Feb. 15. Spivey also lists current Mayor Mark Lamb as his treasurer.

Bothell resident Steven A. Booth filed to run with the PDC on May 9 but has not chosen a specific position to run for, although King County states he is running for current council member Patrick Ewing’s Position 5 seat.

Ewing has not filed with the PDC to run again, is not listed with King County Elections and has not signaled whether he plans to run again. He was first elected to council in 2006.
