Canyon Park Junior High School’s Science Olympiad Team advances to National Competition

Canyon Park Junior High School’s Science Olympiad team won the B division, grades 7-9, at the Washington State Science Olympiad competition and will advance to the national competition to be held May 17-18 at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

Canyon Park Junior High School’s Science Olympiad team won the B division, grades 7-9, at the Washington State Science Olympiad competition and will advance to the national competition to be held May 17-18 at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

The Canyon Park team competed against 19 other schools in 25 categories covering biology, chemistry, earth science, astronomy, physics, and technology.

Canyon Park’s first place winners: Heredity, Ali McAllister-Day and Casey Sim; Reach for the Stars, Kelly Ewing and Alison Guard; and Geologic Mapping, Ysabel Ojoylan and Laura Dachenhausen.

Second place: Anatomy, Robert Ha and Casey Sim; Experimental Design, Kelly Ewing, Robert Ha and Rianne Saleem; Rocks and Minerals, Robert Ha and Catherine Lopez; and Green Generation, Ysabel Ojoylan and Laura Dachenhausen.

Third place: Crime Busters, Alison Guard and Aditya Jain; Forestry, Alison Guard and Ali McAllister-Day; Helicopters, Ali McAllister-Day and Rianne Saleem; Road Scholar, Robert Ha and Casey Sim; and Sounds of Music, Kelly Ewing and Robert Ha.

Fourth place: Meteorology, Ellie Richmond and Simran Kota; Mission Possible, Aditya Jain, Alison Guard and Bryan Lee; Shock Value, Aditya Jain and Bryan Lee; Water Quality, Ali McAllister-Day and Ellie Richmond; and Write It, Do It, Simran Kota and Rianne Saleem.

Northshore Junior High School’s team placed fourth and Kenmore Junior High School’s team placed 11th in the B division and Bothell High School’s teamplaced second and Inglemoor High School’s black team placed 14th and their gold team placed 19th in the C division, grades 9-12.
