Cascadia Community College recently honored Dianne Fruit and Jill Lund as the 2010 recipients of the annual Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Service award. Both faculty members will receive $1,000 for professional development.
Fruit has taught Spanish at Cascadia since 2001. She is an active member of the Global Human Rights Alliance on campus, helped design Cascadia’s Global Studies degree, led a study abroad trip to Costa Rica and participates on multiple committees. In her nomination, Fruit was recognized for her commitment to student learning, selfless spirit and consistent support for colleagues and students.
“Dianne is a leader not only for Spanish, but for all of our world languages. Students in her classes state that she is excellent in her content knowledge and is very supportive and caring in their learning process,” says Dean for Student Learning Dr. Warren Brown.
Lund has more than 20 years of experience as a chemistry teacher and has taught at Cascadia since 2003. She has served on the college’s Student Learning Council and Teaching and Learning Academy steering committee. In her nomination, Lund was noted for her dynamic and engaging teaching style, passion for chemistry and willingness to put students first.
“Teaching chemistry is not easy, but Jill makes the classroom a welcome and invigorating environment. Students appreciate that Jill motivates them but is always available to assist in their learning,” says Dr. Brown.
The Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Service award was initiated in 2005 to honor faculty who make exceptional contributions to Cascadia’s mission and vision. Any member of the college community may nominate faculty for the award.
