Celebrating human rights

Last Saturday, Youth for Human Rights International — Seattle Chapter, sponsored by the Church of Scientology, received the Best of Parade Float award for their entry in the annual Celebrate Shoreline event.

The blue-and-white float designed and built by Kenmore resident Tony Sciumbato (far right), featured the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with members of the group passing out cookies along the parade route with articles from the Universal Declaration, as well as booklets containing a youth version of all 30 articles contained in the declaration. The song “United” played from the award-winning DVD “United” and youths carried signs noting “The right to education,” “Don’t discriminate,” “Freedom of thought” and other precepts from the declaration.
