Changes to Northshore School District weather procedures

Severe weather is predicted for the Pacific Northwest this winter, which could impact Northshore School District (NSD) school schedules. NSD has implemented two important changes to district procedures this year to better serve families:

• Two-hour late start for all grades, if there is a school delay.

• Families will receive a telephone message if there is a school delay or closure.

Families can access the 2010 Snow and Ice Bulletin. Parents can view bus-route information or contact the district Transportation Department at (425) 408-7900.

Parents are encouraged to update their contact information with their child’s school if they have changed they phone numbers so the district can notify them in the event of a school delay, closure or emergency.

The decision to close schools or delay start times will be announced on most radio and television stations. Parents may also call the district information line at (425) 408-6001, beginning at 6 a.m.

If “Northshore School District #417” is not mentioned during the newscast, it means schools are open, with buses operating as normally as possible. If Northshore is mentioned, one of the following situations will be announced:

1. “Two hours late, normal bus routes” means:

• Buses start two hours late on normal routes

• All partial programs are cancelled

• No half-day kindergarten (a.m., p.m.), Sorenson Early Childhood Center (ECC), preschool/pre-K or Head Start

• No out-of-district transportation

• No elementary band/orchestra, zero-period, satellite or ninth-grade classes at the high schools

• No after-school athletics or activity trips

• All-day and extended-day kindergarten operate on the elementary schedule

2. “Two hours late, snow bus routes” means:

• Buses start two hours late on snow routes

• All partial programs are cancelled

• No half-day kindergarten (a.m., p.m.), Sorenson ECC, preschool/pre-K or Head Start

• No out-of-district transportation

• No elementary band/orchestra, zero-period, satellite or ninth-grade classes at the high schools

• No after-school athletics or activity trips

• All-day and extended-day kindergarten operate on the elementary schedule

3.“On time, snow bus routes” means:

• Buses start at normal time on snow routes

4.“On time, no bus transportation” means:

• No bus transportation

5.“Closed” means:

• All district schools are closed

• No after-school/evening activities, athletics or band/orchestra
