City of Bothell asks for help naming future park

“I figured if we had some suggestions from the public, that our process with coming up with a name would be enormously simplified,” Parks and Recreation Director John Keates said.

The Bothell Parks and Recreation department is asking for help naming a future park downtown near Pop Keeney Stadium.

“I figured if we had some suggestions from the public, that our process with coming up with a name would be enormously simplified,” Parks and Recreation Director John Keates said.

The park is currently known as the ‘Half-Acre Park,’ referring to its size.

While the park is still in a conceptual stage with no solid plans, Keates said it will likely be a passive park where patrons can relax.

Residents can suggest names for the park so long as they follow the city’s policy for naming parks, which includes naming them after a neighborhood or geographical identification, a natural or geological feature, a name with historic or cultural significance or an historical figure.

So far, Keates said he’s received around a dozen suggestions, including “Horse Creek Park,” “Triangle Park” and “Sammamish River Park.”

“I’d like to have maybe a list of not more than 10, but maybe five to 10 final suggestions that the board can take a look-see at,” during their Feb. 11 meeting, said Keates.

Once approved, a final suggestion will be recommended to the Bothell City Council by the Parks and Recreation Board for final approval, after which the name will remain the same for at least 25 years.

Suggestions can be sent to Keates at john.keates@bothellwa.gov, or 425.806.6751.
