The following is a release from the city of Bothell:
At the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board meeting today, the city of Bothell was awarded a $6.75 million grant for its Multiway Boulevard Phase II construction. These TIB funds, combined with anticipated proceeds from the sale of downtown property, allow the City the ability to proceed with Phase II. On Nov. 24, the Bothell City Council will consider a staff recommendation to move ahead, with construction beginning in the spring of 2016 and completion in about 15 months.
The $14 million Multiway Boulevard project will enhance Bothell Way from State Route 522 to Northeast 188th Street. The Boulevard is a key component of Bothell’s downtown redevelopment plan. Phase I of the project completed landscaped medians, a side access lane with parking and sidewalk on the west side of Bothell Way from Northeast 183rd Street to Reder Way. Phase II of the project will complete the remainder of the Boulevard to Northeast 188th Street, realizing the City’s goal of joining the new development on the west side of Bothell Way with the historic core on the east side.
The Multiway Boulevard is a street type unlike any other in the Puget Sound and like few in America. Modeled after streets in Europe and other parts of the world, upon full buildout, the project will:
• Boost roadway capacity with two lanes in each direction and alternating left turn lanes;
• Provide tree-lined medians, forming a buffer between fast-moving vehicles and slower-paced pedestrians and bicyclists’
• Include wide sidewalks and
• Add 82 on-street parking spaces.
