Construction along many major routes in June

Construction closures along State Route (SR) 520 may impact local driving routes this weekend.

Construction closures along State Route (SR) 520, SR 522 and I-405 may impact local driving routes this weekend. Not only is June a month of graduations and celebrations, but its’ also a month of high amounts of road work in the area and this weekend is no exception, with many overnight closures along SR 520 and along Interstate 405.

Overnight, between June 5 and June 8, four sections of SR 520 will be closed down to a single lane of traffic.

“We plan to relocate the tolling spots on the bridge to make room for construction activities on the new floating bridge,” said WSDOT Roadway Toll System Manager Jennifer Charlebois. “The new toll equipment is only in test mode for now, [though] drivers can expect to see flashing lights and sign displays before it goes live later this year but they won’t be tolled twice at a time.”

The interchange ramps between SR 522 and I-405 and NE 19th Street SE and SR 522 will be closed overnight until June 5 for lane striping work.

Kirkland will see work along NE 70th Street and SR 520 nightly for electrical work and paving until June 5.

One of the biggest local closures will occur from 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. between June 26 and June 29 when the entirety of SR 520 will be closed completely from I-5 in Seattle to 92nd Avenue NE in Bellevue while crews connect the new temporary westbound offramp to Montlake Boulevard and install new tolling equipment near 84th Avenue NE.
