Deputy Mark Childers retires after serving Kenmore area for more than 28 years

Deputy Mark Childers retired from the King County Sheriff’s Office on June 28 after more than 28 years of service. Childers has served the Kenmore community since 1990.

Deputy Mark Childers retired from the King County Sheriff’s Office on June 28 after more than 28 years of service. Childers has served the Kenmore community since 1990. The Kenmore City Council proclaimed June 28 at Deputy Mark Childers Day at the June 10 council meeting.

“I would like to thank the Kenmore community for your support these past 28 years,” Childers said. “I feel like a member of the community and families. It’s been a pleasure to serve you.”

Childers was hired by King County Sheriff’s Office in May of 1985 and was assigned to patrol until 1990, when he was transferred to the DARE Unit. Childers taught DARE in the Northshore School District for the next five years and then transferred back to patrol. In 1995, Childers was accepted to be a part-time School Resource Officer at Inglemoor High School and Kenmore Junior High School and has served in our schools since. In 2012, Childers was recognized as School Resource Officer of the Year by the Washington School Safety Organization.

“Deputy Mark Childers has done an exceptional job while assigned to the City of Kenmore,” Kenmore Police Chief Cliff Sether said. “He has performed his many duties in an outstanding manner and will be greatly missed by the citizens of Kenmore and by the men and women of the Kenmore Police Department. We wish Mark fair winds and following seas for his retirement.”

In August 1998, Childers transferred to the city of Kenmore and assumed the position of storefront/community officer. During his tenure in the city of Kenmore, Childers has provided the following services to our citizens: neighborhood dispute resolution; Block Watch administrator; Citizens Academy facilitator; Junior High Student Academy facilitator; Vacation House Check coordinator; Crime Free Multi-housing seminar; Home and Business Security surveys; Sixth Grade Drug Awareness classes; Crossing Guard Academy teacher; coordinates National Night Out barbecue; and manages the Police volunteers.
