Northshore firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at an apartment building in Kenmore Friday morning. The fire was confined to a third-story apartment on 73rd Avenue Northeast, just north of Bothell Way Northeast.

“King County investigators have said that it appears to be accidental,” said Northshore Fire Department spokesperson Wendy Booth. “The fire started in one of the bedrooms and was contained there. The apartment does have smoke damage and some of the apartments below have water damage.”

Smoke could be seen billowing from a corner apartment. The Northshore Fire Department received the initial call at 6:36 a.m. for an apartment fire.

“One adult, one teenager and three children were evacuated from the apartment on the third floor,” said Booth. “Several neighbors reported to 911 that they saw smoke and flames from the back of the building.”

Firefighters from Bothell, Woodinville, Kirkland and Shoreline responded to the call. At least seven engines initially responded to the call.

“It was contained and put out quite quickly,” said Booth. “We were definitely fortunate that it was just down the street.”

The estimated damage to the building is $80,000.

The Northshore Fire Department’s main building is also located on 73rd Avenue Northeast. Police shut down the road while firefighters worked to contain the blaze and secure the area.

Booth said there were no injuries associated with the fire, although other tenants from the apartment complex reported seeing a teenager with minor injuries but that he had departed the scene.
