Former astronaut to speak at UW-Bothell commencement June 10

The University of Washington, Bothell will be celebrating its 21st commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. June 10 in Hec Edmundson Pavilion at UW-Seattle. Former NASA Astronaut Wendy Lawrence will be the featured speaker.

The University of Washington, Bothell will be celebrating its 21st commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. June 10 in Hec Edmundson Pavilion at UW-Seattle. Former NASA Astronaut Wendy Lawrence will be the featured speaker.

Lawrence will share with the UW-Bothell class of 2012 her insights into determination, success and life. She received a bachelor of science degree in ocean engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1981, and a master of science degree in ocean engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in 1988.

She was selected as an astronaut in 1992 and worked at NASA for 14 years. Her technical assignments included serving as the NASA director of operations at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City, Russia, and as the astronaut office representative to the International Space Station program for crew training, operations and support. She is a veteran of four shuttle missions (STS-67, 86, 91 and 114) and has logged more than 50 days in space.
