Foundation grants $75K for students

Students in the Northshore School District are impacted by 18 Foundation funded programs during their K-12 school career, as the foundation enters its 19th year of granting funds for innovation, curriculum enhancement and teacher training.

Northshore Schools Foundation Executive Director Carmin Dalziel and Co-Presidents Becky Birch presented a check for $75,042 to School Board President Janet Quinn and Superintendent Larry Francois at the Sept. 23 school board meeting.

Funds were raised during the 2013-14 school year through numerous programs presented by the Foundation, including the annual All in for Kids Campaign, The Taste of the Holiday Wine Walk, Molbak’s Holiday Shopping weekend, Spring Luncheon, Retired NSD Staff Brunch, Milk Money community change drive, designated workplace giving and several other partnership events.

“The board appreciates the tireless work of the Northshore Schools Foundation. The Foundation’s intentional focus on supporting the district’s Goals and Performance Measures provides benefit all students in the district,” said Quinn.

A district-wide granting process identified the needs of the NSD and aligned those needs with Foundation funding initiatives. Funds from the grant will be directed to these key projects over the next school year.

The grant provide funds 25 requests from individual classroom teachers at 18 schools who are enhancing their lesson plans to incorporate new teaching strategies and projects while insuring that students meet required benchmarks for learning.

This granting process is one of three ways the Foundation provides funding support for the Northshore School District. In the 2013-14 school year, the Foundation awarded more than $180,000 in grants to support district-wide programs.

The foundation recently received and endorsement from the Cities of Kenmore and Bothell, and the Northshore School District Board proclaiming September Northshore Schools Foundation month in those jurisdictions.
