The Bothell Police Department is warning the public about a fraud scam where suspects phone victims, identify themselves as law enforcement officials, and demand payment of money.

The suspects sometimes use technology to display false caller ID information.

On June 10, around three separate Bothell residents received similar phone calls from a subject claiming to be a Bothell Police Officer or IRS tax agent. The suspect was described by the victims as aggressive, providing instructions to submit money, and on at least one occasion, a threat may have been made to shoot one of the victims.

Citizens are warned that suspects have the ability to have caller ID’s display incorrect information.  Any citizen who has received similar calls should immediately report them to their local police departments.
