This Halloween season, the city of Kenmore encourages trick-or-treaters to be safe outdoors by picking up their treat, a free flashing safety light, at City Hall before throwing on the costume and heading out in the neighborhood.

The free flashing light is apart of the city’s Target Zero initiative focused on pedestrian safety. The Target Zero Initiative aims to reduce the number of driver, pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities and serious injuries to zero by 2025. As a part of increasing safety and awareness through education and outreach efforts, the city celebrated National Walk to School Day on Oct. 8. This day emphasized the importance of safety for those who currently walk to school, and encouraged others to join the walk. City staff collaborated with Arrowhead, Moorlands and Kenmore Elementary to educate students about safer walking via distributing around 300 safety lights, 100 safety vests, safety tips and quizzing students’ traffic safety knowledge with our new prize wheel.

The flashing safety lights are the first of several other reflective safety items the city of Kenmore intends to offer to the public. These flashing safety lights can be picked up at Kenmore City Hall or city-hosted events throughout the year. The address for City Hall is 18120 68th Ave NE in Kenmore. City Hall is open week days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
