Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for King County, as well as most of Western Washington.

The flood watch is in effect from Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon.

Significant rainfall is expected Thursday afternoon through Friday with the heaviest rain falling from the Olympic Mountains and east.

The NWS warns that excessive rainfall could lead to urban and small stream flooding.

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for the Seattle, Tacoma areas on Thursday through Friday this week.

Heavy rain and possible thunderstorms are predicted beginning Thursday through Western Washington.

The weather statement says “a slow moving upper level low pressure system sitting off the Oregon Coast is expected to drift East today. The low will move over Oregon on Thursday and into Central Washington on Friday. As the low approaches and moves into the area showers and thunderstorms will increase on Thursday and continue into Friday. These storms will likely produce locally heavy rainfall amounts.”

The NWS expects around 1-2 inches of rain possible in the lowlands on Thursday and up to 4 inches in the Cascades.
