Homeward Pet Adoption Center to present Bark-BQ Aug. 22 in Bothell

Homeward Pet Adoption Center (HPAC) will present the first Summer Bark-BQ from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 22 at The Doggy Haven Resort, 5303 W. Interurban Blvd., Bothell. The Summer Bark-BQ is a family-friendly event for dog owners and their four-legged friends, featuring food and fun activities you can do with your dog.

Summer fun at the Bark-BQ includes:

• BBQ from Mongo’s, including vegetarian options and Pete’s Treats ice cream

• Human-versus-dog pie-eating contest, relay races, off-leash area and more

• Gourmet treats from the Dining Dog Café and Blue Dog Bakery

• Doggy massage

• Microchipping and medical advice in the Homeward Pet Clinic Corner

• Workshops by the pros: basic agility, dancing with your dog, training advice from Sidekick Dog Training and Mountain High Dog Training

• Information from: Healthy Paws Pet Insurance and Reading with Rover

While admittance is free for humans, the cost is $10 per dog at the door. All net proceeds benefit the homeless dogs and cats at HPAC, where the mission is to give homeless animals a second chance through rescue, shelter and adoption programs.

Now celebrating 20 years, HPAC is one of the largest no-kill, nonprofit animal adoption centers in Washington. The center is celebrating record adoptions in 2009 with a total of 1,388 animals placed in their forever homes (405 dogs, 191 puppies, 298 cats and 494 kittens). With nine full-time and eight part-time staff members, HPAC relies on its more than 200 volunteers to make the center successful.
