Led by a dominating pitching performance by Inglemoor High junior Obidiah Taylor, the Vikings routed Ballard High at Whitman Field on Thursday night, 11-1.
Taylor scattered four hits across four innings of work, struck out two and did not allow an earned run in the win, while the Vikings capitalized on four Ballard fielding errors.
In the game, Mitchell Gunsolus hit a two-run home run and Peter Meuisi also went yard as part of a 2-for-3 night with three RBIs.
With the win, the Vikings, who played Woodinville on Monday night after the Reporter’s deadline, improved to 2-0 in 4A Kingco play and 4-1 overall.
Viking fastpitch beats Everett
Inglemoor traveled to Everett’s Lincoln Field to play the 3A Seagulls on Friday night, and the Vikings came up big in the seventh inning for a 4-1 victory.
Starter Rosie Matsumoto went the distance, scattering nine hits and striking out four, as the Seagulls simply could not get their baserunners in to score.
In the top of the seventh, freshman Holly Sandborg came up huge with an RBI base hit to give the Vikings the lead, and Matsumoto pitched a scoreless seventh for the hard-earned win.
With the victory, the Vikings are now 3-1 on the season and begin their league season tonight against Woodinville.
Northshore lacrosse downs Eastlake
Northshore lacrosse scored 10 goals in a 10-4 rout over Eastlake in Boys Division I action last Thursday at Bothell High.
Leading the offense for Northshore was Foster Wisman, who recorded three goals and one assist, while his brother Taylor scored two goals of his own and fielded 13 ground balls.
The win evened Northshore’s record to 2-2-0 while Eastlake dropped to 1-3-0.
Bothell boys track runs past Juanita, Roosevelt
Standout performances led the Cougars to a 117-32.5 rout over Juanita on Thursday night at Juanita High during a Kingco track meet, with Roosevelt coming in third with 30.5 team points.
Winning highlights included Cougar running back Luke Proulx flying to an 11.5-second 100-meter dash and 23.4 in the 200 meters, Reggie Davis winning the 400 meters in 53.6 and distance specialist Kevin Holmes running the 1,600 in 4 minutes, 31.9 seconds and crushing the field in the 3,200 with a time of 10:30.40.
The Cougars also took both relay events as Proulx, Phillip Williams, Dustin Allen and Matt Hill combined for 44.6 in the 4×100 and Ashkon Nima, Trevor Nolan, Braden Foley and Caden Burk took the 4×400 in 3:39.60.
In the field, Victor Whitney had a meet-winning toss of 130 feet, 11 inches, Sam Tuggle tied with Juanita’s Austin Hilliker by clearing 5 feet, 6 inches on the high jump, Cougars Adam Boase and Blake Rowe pole-vaulted to 10 feet, 6 inches for another tie, senior Dan Tran dominated the long jump with a 19 foot, 9-inch leap and Kyle Everly’s 39-foot, 6.5-inch triple jump was good for the win.
On the girls’ side, Alex Neil emerged victorious in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.50, Kareena Dahl won the 1,600 by 15 seconds in 5:42.50 and Emma Jones’ 82-foot discus toss and Jacqueline Korn’s javelin throw, one inch shy of 80 feet, were good for wins.
Viking track solid in exhibition event
On Saturday at Inglemoor, the Vikings invited four schools for the annual Viking Invitational, and the home team came up with some big performances.
Junior Mark Roetcisoender took the 100 meters in 11.38 seconds, Bernie Hagan (2:03.52) edged out fellow Viking Brandon Cunningham in the 800 meters, Colin O’Neal beat Hagan by seven-tenths of a second to win the 1,600 in 4:32.40 and Shamus Mukai crushed his personal best by clearing 12 feet, 6 inches on the pole vault.
The Viking girls also had success, winning seven events.
Tess Parent won two of them, running a 26.625 200 meters and crushing the field in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 9 inches, nearly two feet ahead of her nearest competitor.
Hurdles specialist Erin Allen won both the 100- and 300-meter races, in 16.27 and 47.41, Ashley Nichols won the 1,600 meters in 5:39.47, Lacey London took the 800 meters in 2:24.20 and sprinter Hannah Stevenson’s 13.35 in the 100 meters was just fast enough for a gold.
