Inglemoor’ teachers receive American Association of Teachers of German National Awards

The American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) honored Inglemoor High School junior Sarvani Mandapathi with the Langenscheidt Award. The award is presented to the Washington state student with the highest score on the National German Exam.

The American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) honored Inglemoor High School junior Sarvani Mandapathi with the Langenscheidt Award. The award is presented to the Washington state student with the highest score on the National German Exam.

In addition, Inglemoor German teacher Suzanne Kanning received the Duden Award for excellence in teaching German.

The Langenscheidt Award, sponsored by the distinguished German publisher Gustav Langenscheidt, honors high achievement in German language study. Sarvani placed in the top 1 percent in her peer-group among students who participated in the 2016 national German exam competition, sponsored by the German government and the American Association of Teachers of German. Students were subjected to rigorous testing in listening comprehension, reading skills, and oral proficiency.

The Duden Award, sponsored by the Duden Publishing Company, is given annually to a top teacher of German in Washington state. The award honors innovative teaching and the ability to interest students in continuing their studies of the German language and German speaking cultures. Teachers are nominated by the Washington Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German and receive a certificate and a book prize published by Duden.
