Begun in 2003, the Kenmore History Path recently brought its creators the 2010 Exhibit Award from the Association of King County Historical Organizations (AKCHO).

The award was given to the Kenmore Historical Society, led by president Elmer Skold, April 27 at the AKCHO annual award ceremony held at Seattle’s Museum of History and Industry.

Located just a few steps away from the Burke-Gilman Trail, the Kenmore History Path consists of 10 interpretive panels lining a curved walkway into Log Boom Park.

Each panel features vintage photographs and text highlighting local historical facts. The panels cover topics such as geology, Native American life, logging and roadhouses.

According to the Kenmore Historical Society, the project was launched primarily by residents Tom and Bobbi Traeger with help from the late Jack Crawford, a former Kenmore mayor and president of the Kenmore Historical Society.

The trio secured funding, completed the necessary research and tracked down the photos ultimately used in the display.

Crawford passed away 2 1/2 months after the trail was dedicated in October 2008.
