Kenmore Elementary, Westhill Elementary and Frank Love Elementary won a combined $9,000 in funding for arts education by entering a KRIS Wine and Americans for the Arts Facebook competition.

Kenmore Elementary won the grand prize of $5,000. The school was one of 1,465 schools that entered the contest.

Steve Hopkins, principal at Kenmore Elementary said, “Our state has just come out with learning standards for the arts. This grant will help us greatly in designing activities and experiences that will help students not only appreciate the arts, but learn the different aspects of art. In the end, this grant will help us enrich the lives of our students by providing more arts education.”

KRIS Wine and Americans for the Arts partnered to promote awareness and support arts education in public schools at a time when budget cuts threaten quality arts education programs across the country. Throughout the months of October and November, consumers 21 years or older voted for their favorite K-12 public school to win funding for arts education programs by visiting KRIS Wine’s Facebook page. The 16 schools with the top number of votes are being awarded a total of $25,000 to contribute to academic achievement through arts education.
