Kenmore woman faces felony hit-and-run charges in man’s death

The woman who hit and killed a man in Kenmore was the same person who called 911 to report she found the man’s body on the side of the road.

Kenmore resident Sydney Katelane Jones waived the right to appear at her bail hearing Tuesday afternoon when a judge set bail at $25,000 for the 24-year-old suspect. She faces felony hit-and-run charges in the case.

King County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Cindi West confirmed that detectives believe Jones allegedly hit and killed Joseph “JD” Humphreys at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Monday morning and then reported to 911 dispatchers the man’s whereabouts. It is unknown whether she identified herself to dispatchers as the person involved in the crime.

West originally reported that a dog walker found Humphreys but it is unknown whether that was erroneous information or Jones identified herself as such when she called 911.

“She is the same woman who called 911,” said West. “She turned herself in at Kenmore City Hall at about 2 p.m. on Monday afternoon.”

The woman then took detectives back to her home where they found a Ford F-150. The truck had damage that matched pieces found at the scene of the crime from the same make and model, according to court documents.

Jones, who lives just five blocks from where the accident occurred with her parents, is scheduled for another hearing tomorrow at the King County Superior Courthouse.
