The Kenmore resident, one of the co-authors of “Nubs: The True Story of a Mutt, a Marine and a Miracle,” received a Christopher Award in the “Books for Young People” category for children 6 to 8 years old April 15 in a ceremony on the 35th floor of the Mutual America building.

She was joined on stage at the 61st Christophers event by Mary Nethery, her collaborator on “Nubs,” a New York Times bestseller.

The nine books recognized this year affirm the highest values of the human spirit, according to a press release. In addition to the books, Christopher Awards were presented to the creators of three feature films and five TV and cable programs.

“Mary and I were greeted so warmly and felt so celebrated that I’m sure we were forgiven for the teary eyes when our names were called and we stepped forward to accept the bronze medal,” Larson wrote on her blog. “I know I’ve said it a hundred times, but I can’t tell you how blessed I feel to be able to tell stories of hope and love, like Nubs, with someone I cherish so much.”
